The main idea of this is the contrast between,
- The fast thinking side of our subconscious that reacts impulsively and on the basic human desires without digging deep into why we have reached a certain decision. This is helpful for making decisions about close dangerous situations, and avoiding substances, places, people, animals, and situations that would otherwise harm our well being. These beliefs are deep ingrained in the mind, and act as core beliefs. For example, our disgust to a certain color because it might remind us of an humiliating moment in our art class where the teacher didn't like our choice of color. Every single moment after that will start to slowly develop into a chain of personal disgust that arises automatically, without reason and logic, the next time we see that color, even though we might be praised for choosing that color later on
- Thinking slow delves on the deeper, philosophical, humane side of people, the places where people go in their minds to feel emotions and understand their root causes from the deepest depths of their brains and hearts. And even though those feelings are indescribable, very hard to explain, we understand and remember those feelings whenever we come back to it. This takes focus, concentration, deep self reflection, cognitive mind behavior, and many failures to realize where the problem comes from within us. Why do we like and dislike certain things? What is the purpose of what we're actually doing? What value does our work and existence hold?
